This December, the Family Literacy Centre is hosting a book launch for “Sizzie & Vaila: Hats in the Attic”, a unique and delightful children’s story book by local artist and author Susan McCallum.
A tale of circumpolar adventure, culture, family, and friendship, Hats in the Attic tells the story of Sizzie and Vaila, two young cousins who live on the 60th parallel: one in the Yukon and the other in the Shetland Isles, Scotland. The girls discover a portal that allows them to travel between the two places, and the story unfolds from there.
Sizzie & Vaila is a culmination of life experiences, stories, and history of life in Susan’s beloved Yukon and Shetland Isles, her Ancestral Lands.
Susan and her co-authors have just returned from a successful companion book launch in Scotland, where they travelled the region showcasing the book, and were featured on the BBC!
Here is a link to Susan’s website if you’d like any further information about her, the book, and the rest of her work.
Join us for a brief introduction to the book; a reading by co-author Louise Profeit-LeBlanc; a book-making craft; an opportunity to buy signed copies; a draw to win copies of the book; tea, coffee, hot chocolate, and snacks; and more!
