Job Summary:
This position is responsible for assisting in the design, development and implementation of the Newcomer Engagement Settlement & Training (N.E.S.T) project and will work collaboratively with the project team and partners to create programs that will provide Newcomers’ opportunities to learn and get to know their community by providing networking and knowledge sharing workshops and events.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinate and deliver cultural gatherings in Whitehorse and Dawson City, YT to promote community, diversity, inclusion and networking
- Develop and deliver youth events to newcomers in Whitehorse, YT to create opportunities to strengthen cross- cultural relationships supporting diversity and inclusion
- Consult with local First Nations to identify cultural activities and practices that can be used to develop and deliver First Nations cultural awareness workshops to newcomers in Whitehorse, YT
- Organize and deliver informal language learning to newcomers who identify as women in Whitehorse, YT to promote community, diversity, inclusion and language learning
- Provide participant support throughout the project initiatives
- Maintain appropriate records and statistics for ongoing success
- Work as a collaborative member of the project team to ensure the success of the project
Qualifications:
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of community services and resources for referrals and partnerships
- Strong communication skills
- Self-directed and independent worker with the ability to take instruction and feedback
- Works well under pressure while demonstrating effective leadership and problem-solving skills
- Excellent organizational, listening and writing skills
- Proficient in computer skills and software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet, email, Adobe etc.)
- Able to maintain confidentiality of clients
- Able to lift and carry 30lbs
Required Training and Experience:
- Training in cross cultural communications and education
- Experience in program and module development, management and evaluation
- Presentation and facilitation experience
- Yukon First Nations 101, or willingness to obtain
- Trauma Informed Care, or willingness to obtain
Required Licenses, Certificates and Registrations:
- Standard First Aid and CPR-C
- Valid Yukon Driver’s license
- Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector
